Local & quality

We keep various breeds of ewes to produce our lambs for meat production and breeding purposes. We currently keep Swaledales, Mules, Texels and pure bred Herdwicks. All our ewes lamb outside in all weathers in March and April.

All the lambs are left to mature naturally, with access to quality grass.

All our butchery is undertaken by our local abattoir and butcher - Joe Simpson of  Cockfield. We sell

direct with no minimum order - from a chop to a whole lamb.

As of 2017 all our mutton will be produced from our pure Herdwick wethers and sold from the age of 2 years of age. A wether is a castrated male sheep.

The mutton is hung for a minimum of 10 days to enhance the flavour and texture of the meat. It produces a stronger flavoured alternative to lamb.

Our flock

We supply direct our delicious lamb, hogget and mutton from our home base in the village of Gainford, the gateway to Teesdale.  An area with a rich array of quality produce. Our aim is to supply quality locally produced meat at affordable prices.  All our meat is sold vacuum packed ready to cook or pop in the freezer. We can supply a wholesale price list upon request.
